Beauty Barn asked a few women, to talk about their skin with us. And yes! From skincare tips, to getting skincare education, and maintaining a healthy skincare routine and aging gracefully, they tell us all. Read on and learn more.
Toina Kinimi, Founder and Aesthetician
Founder and aesthetician, Beauty Barn India, Toinali Kinimi tells us, why it is important to educate yourself on skincare, so you can have healthy, beautiful skin. Toina says, “I began a proper skincare routine only a few years back, after I started Beauty Barn India. I did have my struggles with oily skin issues like enlarged pores, frequent breakouts and uneven skin tone. But thanks to Korean Beauty for its science backed skincare and education. Getting the right education on skincare, and understanding my skin well, helped reverse my skin for the better. So, I would like to emphasize to equip yourself with the right skincare education, so that you will get to know and understand your skin much better.
And lastly, get your skincare basics right before you jump into the skincare bandwagon – the cleanser, toner and moisturiser plus a sunscreen. Even if you are a skincare pro, you will still need your basics right to reset your skin on bad skin days. Because, if you have a strong skincare foundation, your skin will be so much healthier”
Sashila Ozukum, Proprietor of Hope Academy
Sashila Ozukum, Proprietor of Hope Academy, shares her skincare routine and how to maintain healthy skin. Sashi tells us, “One thing which, I never skip is the sunscreen. I wish I had known its importance, when I was much younger. But, I guess it’s never too late. I try and, reapply my sunscreen every few hours especially when I am outdoors. Another very important part of having good, clear skin is to completely clean my face before I go to bed. No matter, how late or tired I am, I never go to bed without washing my face. I try and exfoliate my face at least twice a week and use a sheet mask whenever I feel the need.
Another thing I have realized over the years, is that taking care of the outside will not have maximum results, if we do not take care of the inside. So, I start my day by drinking at least three glasses of warm water, and try to stay hydrated throughout the day. I, also try to eat healthy food and minimize my intake of sugar, and sugary product and try to be consistent with my workout.”
Theyiesinuo Keditsu, Assistant Professor at Kohima College
Theyiesinuo Keditsu, assistant professor at Kohima College, shares with us how she maintains her skincare routine as a busy mother, and working women. Keditsu says, “I make time! Your face is what you present to the world. They say we should not judge a book by its cover nevertheless; the cover is what everyone sees first. My profession as a teacher means I have to stand in front of a room of students, day after day. One’s appearance is one way of conveying that I take my work seriously & that their attention should be on me. After the pandemic, the focus on one’s face became even more pronounced because of the online classes. Our computer cameras do not have the beauty editing features of our phones, so seeing my face on my laptop was a harsh wake up call. So, no matter how tired I am, how much needs to be done, I do my best to spare 10 mins to care for my face morning & night.”
Bambi Kevichusa, Fashion Designer
Fashion designer, Bambi Kevichusa tells us how she maintains a simple skincare routine and, how she is contemplating whether to embrace her aging lines or not. Bambi goes on, “My skincare regime is very simple. For my morning routine, I like to cleanse, moisturize and use a sun block. And my night routine, even simpler. I cleanse and moisturize before I hit the sack. Whenever I remember, I exfoliate my skin. I seldom use face masks, or do any beauty treatments. My excuse is simple: I have no time. But I have realized that maybe I need to stop making excuses, and take better care of my skin.
As I grow older, I have noticed some fine lines and wrinkles, which are my skin concerns at the moment. Then, there are pigmentations and age spots too, which I am not very fond of. Sometimes, I don’t really mind my lines and wrinkles. If I can be half as fabulous as Cate Blanchett and Sharon Stone, who rock their wrinkles, I would be more than happy. Of course, there are days when I don’t like my aging lines. So, I am still contemplating, whether to embrace them or not.”
Shelley Nayak, K-Beauty Blogger and Content Creator
Shelley Nayak, K-beauty blogger and content creator, shares with us some important skincare tips. Shelley says, “I suggest never to add two new products at the same time in a skincare routine. Try to maintain a gap of at least 5 to 10 days before adding two or more products.
Always listen to your skin. If your skin does not adhere well to a skincare product, I’d advise you to skip it. Like my skin is finicky, when it comes to active-based concentrated serums, so I do not rush with such products. I would give my skin time to adjust with the concentrated serums, or if these serums do not suit my skin, I would discard the product. Nothing is more important than your own skin.
When it comes to high concentrated serums with ingredients like AHA, BHA, PHA, LHA, Ascorbic acid, Retinol, etc. I use them only at night. I start with 1-2 times per week, and gradually increase the frequency only if my skin allows.
Finally, even if you don’t have the time or money for a multi-step skincare routine, even sticking to a basic skincare routine will definitely make a world of difference. Like always do a double cleanse at night, use a hydrating toner day & night, a good skin barrier cream for your AM&PM routine, and a sunscreen during the day.”
