After struggling with cystic acne for many years, blogger Yashwant Singh finally cracks the code with Korean beauty products. Let’s take a look…
Back in 2011, I remember struggling with cystic acne and skin irritations for over a year. I decided to do something about it as all my friends had clear, normal skin. I had red, cystic acne all over my face, which attracted unnecessary attention from others.
I tried everything – from supplements to DIY homemade masks, visited a few dermatologists, and tried all kinds of products for acne cure from every brand, but all in vain. This really affected my self-esteem; I started losing confidence in myself. I started to avoid all kinds of outings, like skipping family functions and parties and completely isolated myself. I hated looking at myself in the mirror.
I looked happy on the outside but deep inside, I was broken and frustrated. I used to cry in front of my mother. I struggled with severe acne problem for the next 3-4 years. In my quest for acne cure, I came across a blog called the ‘acne mantra’. It is from this blog, I came to know about non-comedogenic products for oily and acne prone skin. I became curious, and as I delved deeper on the internet, I stumbled across the popular Korean brand Wishtrend channel on Youtube. Then I started following more skincare junkies and finally ended up finding a real gem, Liah Yoo on Youtube.
As I started watching more of Liah Yoo’s videos online, I learnt about all the mistakes I was making. All this while, I was using harsh ingredients like Benzoyl peroxide and AHA on my already irritated skin. This skin regime was taking a toll on my skin as I was unaware that these ingredients were making my skin condition worse by compromising on my skin barrier. Then, I switched to LiahYoo’s press reset formula, and ditched every harsh components from my skincare routine.
Then, I began to follow a basic routine with the Korean brands like Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser, Cosrx Centella Alcohol Free Toner , Cosrx Centella Blemish Cream, Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop and Avene’ Cica balm to achieve a healthy skin barrier first. Then, I slowly started to incorporate Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, Cosrx AHA7 Whitehead Power Liquid in my skincare routine. I also decided to cut down on my dairy from my diet, which also helped me in achieving clear skin to some extent.
Korean beauty has literally saved my skin and I couldn’t be more thankful. I do get breakouts occasionally but when they do, now I know how to deal with them. Thanks to K-beauty products.
